Jewellery CAD design: what you get, what it costs, and how to brief it
A CAD file is the one asset every other deliverable depends on. The render, the 360-degree spin, the animation, the wax print and the cast all come from the same model, so if the CAD is wrong, everything downstream is wrong at once. Our CAD work is built for production first and pictures second: metal thickness, stone seats, prongs and clearances are set at the sizes a caster needs, then the same file is used for marketing.
This page explains what the model includes, how the work is priced, who owns the file when it is done, and exactly what to send so the first draft is close.
What we model
- Rings: solitaires, halos, eternity bands, signets and stackers, with shank profiles and settings sized for the stones you specify.
- Earrings, pendants, bracelets and necklaces, including matching sets that share proportions and stone sizes across pieces.
- Hip-hop and Cuban pieces: heavy links, iced-out settings, face and letter work, built with the wall thicknesses that survive casting at that scale.
- Custom designs from a sketch, a photo of a piece you want remade, or a description with measurements. Where you have not decided a detail, we propose one and mark it on the draft.
- Ready-made starting points: a library of 3000+ CAD designs you can adapt instead of starting from a blank file.
What the file includes
Every model is built at production scale. Metal thickness, prong dimensions, stone seats, bail and clasp openings and the gaps between parts are set for casting, not only for the image. Stones are placed at the sizes you list so the setter is not left to guess. If you need a manufacturing-style spec sheet, with stone counts and sizes per section and an estimated metal weight per alloy, ask for it with the brief.
You receive the file in the formats a workshop actually uses: 3DM for further editing and STL for 3D printing and casting, with OBJ available for the rendering pipeline. Other formats can be exported on request. Once you have paid for the CAD work, the final CAD file is yours.
What it costs
CAD design starts from $10 per design as an indicative starting rate on our price list. The final quote depends on the complexity of the piece and the stone count: a plain band and a full-pave cluster with a hidden halo are not the same job. Rendering from $20 per design and animation from $50 per video are quoted separately, and all three come from the one model, so the CAD is paid for once.
There is no minimum order. One ring is a normal request; a collection of fifty is also a normal request, and bulk pricing is available on request.
How to brief a CAD design
- A reference: a sketch, a photo, or an existing piece you want remade. Front view at minimum; a side view helps with thickness and setting height.
- Sizes in millimetres: ring size or finger circumference, overall height and width for pendants and earrings, chain thickness the bail has to take.
- Metal and finish: yellow, rose or white gold, platinum or silver; polished, brushed or matte.
- Stones, if any: shape, size in millimetres or carats, and how many. Say whether the sizes are fixed or whether we may adjust them to fit.
- What is fixed and what we may improve. The more you tell us is open, the better the first draft usually is.
How the work runs
- Share your sketch or reference through the upload form or by email, with the sizes above.
- Standard CAD, rendering and animation first drafts are delivered in 2 days, without compromising quality.
- Review the draft and mark your changes on it. Revisions are part of the job; minor changes are included.
- Approve the final and receive the 3DM and STL files, ready for your caster or 3D printer.
- Add renders, a 360-degree video or an animation from the same model whenever you are ready to list the piece.

How much does jewellery CAD design cost?
CAD design starts from $10 per design as an indicative starting rate on our price list. The final quote depends on complexity and stone count. Renders and videos are priced separately, and there is no minimum order.
Can you design from a photo or a rough sketch?
Yes. A clear photo or a hand sketch with the main sizes is enough to start. Tell us what to keep and what to change, and we confirm the measurements on the first draft before anything is finalised.
Who owns the CAD file once it is finished?
You do. Once you have paid for the CAD work, the final CAD file is yours, delivered as 3DM and STL so you can edit it, print it or send it to any caster.
Is the model ready for 3D printing and casting?
Yes. Wall thickness, prongs, stone seats and clearances are built at production scale and checked before delivery, so the STL can go straight to your printer or caster.
Can we present the work as our own, and will you sign an NDA?
Yes to both. Files are delivered unbranded, so studios and agencies can present them under their own name, and we sign an NDA on request before any files are shared. Work covered by an NDA is never shown in our portfolio or marketing.
