Jewellery animation: which video to make, what it costs, and how to brief one

A still image proves a piece exists. A video proves it was made. Animation is what shows the weight of a shank, the way light moves across a pave field, or how a clasp actually closes — the things a customer would otherwise have to hold in their hand to believe. Because the video is built from the same CAD model as your renders, the piece on screen is the piece that comes back from the caster, and nothing has to be photographed twice.

This page covers the three kinds of animation we make, what is delivered, what it costs, and what we need from you to start. If you already know which video you want, the brief at the bottom of this section is the short version.

Which animation to choose

  • Explainer Story: the piece shown feature by feature — stone layout, setting type, finish, sizing — for a product page where the buyer is deciding, not browsing.
  • Build & Assemble: the piece constructed on screen, part by part, so the craftsmanship is visible. It suits bespoke work and anything where the making is the selling point.
  • Cinematic Reveal: slow motion, dramatic light, a single hero piece. Built for a launch, a campaign or the top of a collection page rather than for a catalogue.
  • 360-degree rotation: the piece turning on its own axis, delivered in three metal tones. It is a different job from an animation and is priced and produced separately.

What you receive

Videos are delivered as MP4, optimised for web, ads and social media. Background music, transitions and effects can be included, and your brand logo can be placed in the animation — tell us at the brief stage rather than after the first draft, because both affect how the sequence is timed. Voiceover is part of the standard process where the video needs one.

Every platform has its own limits on length, aspect ratio and file size, and those change more often than our process does. The video specs guide lists the current requirements for Etsy, Amazon, Shopify and Instagram, so you can tell us the format you need before the animation is built rather than re-exporting it afterwards.

What it costs

Animation starts from $50 per video as an indicative starting rate on our price list. The final quote depends on the length of the sequence, the number of pieces on screen and how much motion the piece itself needs — a rotating solitaire and a bracelet that opens and closes are not the same job. If you do not have a CAD model yet, CAD design starts from $10 per design and rendering from $20; the same model then feeds the stills, the 360-degree spin and the animation, so it is paid for once.

There is no minimum order. A single video for one hero piece is a normal request, and so is a full collection. Bulk pricing is available on request.

How to brief an animation

  • The CAD or render files for the piece. If you do not have them, send the sketch or reference photos and we quote the CAD step first.
  • The concept, style reference or theme — an existing video you like is the fastest way to communicate this.
  • Which of the three animation types you want, or a description of what the video has to show if you are not sure.
  • Where the video will run: product page, paid ad, Instagram, or all three. This sets the aspect ratio and length before anything is built.
  • Music, voiceover and logo: whether you want them, and whether you are supplying your own audio or brand assets.

How the work runs

  • You share the CAD or render files along with the brief.
  • We return a storyboard and a draft so the sequence is agreed before the frames are rendered.
  • Standard CAD, rendering and animation first drafts are delivered in 2 days, without compromising quality.
  • Animation and voiceover are produced from the approved storyboard; you mark changes on the draft and revisions follow.
  • Final delivery in the formats and aspect ratios you specified, ready to upload.

Jewellery animation: questions we are asked

What does a jewellery animation video cost?

Animation starts from $50 per video as an indicative starting rate on our price list. The final quote depends on the length of the sequence, the number of pieces and how much motion is involved. There is no minimum order, and bulk pricing is available on request.

Do I need a CAD file to start an animation?

Yes — we animate from your CAD or render files, together with your concept, style reference or theme. If you do not have a CAD model, we can build one first: CAD design starts from $10 per design, and the same model then produces the renders, the 360-degree video and the animation.

How long does an animation take?

Standard CAD, rendering and animation first drafts are delivered in 2 days, without compromising quality. Revisions follow as you mark them on the draft.

Can you add music, voiceover and our logo?

Yes. Background music, transitions and effects can be included, voiceover is part of the standard process where the video needs one, and your brand logo can be placed in the animation. Tell us at the brief stage, because each of these changes how the sequence is timed.

Will the animation be branded as yours?

No. Files are delivered unbranded, so studios and agencies can present the work under their own name. We also sign an NDA on request before any files are shared, and work covered by an NDA is never shown in our portfolio or marketing.

What is the difference between an animation and a 360-degree video?

A 360-degree video shows the piece turning on its own axis, delivered in three metal tones — it is the standard e-commerce spin. An animation is a directed sequence with a storyboard, camera moves, lighting and optional sound, made to tell a story about the piece rather than simply show every side of it.
