On-body jewellery renders: what they are and when to use them
An on-body render places a rendered piece of jewellery on a hand, neck, ear or wrist so a shopper can judge scale, proportion and how the piece sits when worn. The jewellery itself is the same 3D model used for your white-background product images; the body, skin tone, pose and lighting are set up around it. Nothing is photographed, so there is no sample to ship, no model booking and no reshoot when the metal colour or the stone changes.
On-body images do a different job from a plain product shot. The product shot shows the piece exactly; the on-body shot answers the question every buyer asks before paying — how big is it, really, and how does it look on?
Where on-body renders earn their place
- Product pages: one on-body image in the second or third slot next to the white-background set, so scale is settled before the buyer reaches the size chart.
- Marketplace listings: Etsy's guidance leans towards a clean first image with lifestyle images following it, and Amazon requires a pure-white main image with additional images free for context — an on-body render is built for those additional slots.
- Catalogues and line sheets: a consistent hand or neck across a whole collection, which is hard to achieve across several photo shoots.
- WhatsApp and social campaigns: a worn view at feed size is easier to read than a small ring on white.
How we keep scale honest
The model is built at real millimetre dimensions from your CAD file or from the measurements in your brief, and the hand, neck or ear it sits on is a scaled reference, so a 6 mm stone reads as a 6 mm stone. Ring size, chain length and drop length are set to the values you give us. If a client's piece is a specific size, we render that size rather than a flattering one.
What you receive
- On-body views rendered from the same model as your product images, in the metal colours you sell.
- Files sized for the destination — marketplace listing sizes, product-page tiles, WhatsApp and Instagram formats — exported from one render.
- Consistent skin tone, lighting and pose across a collection so the range reads as one shoot.
- Optional matching white-background set, 360° rotation video and product videos from the same file.
How the work runs and what it costs
Upload a CAD file, a sketch or a clear photo of the piece, tell us the metal colours and where the images will be used, and we send a first draft — standard CAD, rendering and animation first drafts are delivered in 2 days, without compromising quality. Revisions to pose, angle, background or metal follow from the same scene. Our 3D Rendering package starts at $20 per design and includes 12 photorealistic images (3 metal colours × 4 angles), 3 product videos and a 360° rotation video in three metal tones; on-body views are quoted with the package for your piece. These are indicative starting rates.
Frequently asked questions
What is an on-body jewellery render?
A computer-generated image of a jewellery piece shown worn — on a hand, neck, ear or wrist — produced from the piece's 3D model instead of a photo shoot. It shows scale and fit while the product images show the piece itself.
Do I need to send a physical sample or book a model?
No. The piece is rendered from a CAD file, a sketch or clear photos, and the body it sits on is a reference scene we set up. Metal colour and stone changes are material edits, not reshoots.
Can on-body renders be used as marketplace listing images?
Yes, in the additional-image slots. Amazon requires the main image to be the product alone on pure white; Etsy recommends a clean first image with lifestyle images after it. Our Etsy and Amazon image-requirement guides quote the exact rules.
Will the piece look the correct size?
Yes. The model is built at real dimensions and the hand, neck or ear is a scaled reference, so proportions match the finished piece at the size you specify.
Can I get the same on-body image in yellow, rose and white gold?
Yes. All three come from one scene with a material change, so they match exactly in pose, lighting and framing.
How quickly do I get the first draft?
Standard CAD, rendering and animation first drafts are delivered in 2 days, without compromising quality. Larger collections are scheduled when we confirm the order.
